Harmful effects of saffron on health
Because of the negative effect of saffron on the reproductive system, pregnant women should avoid using saffron because it may cause abortion. Using excessive amounts of saffron harms the kidneys, reduces appetite, and causes headache and mental derangement.
Saffron is euphoric, soothing, and therapeutic if taken in moderate quantities. Three grams per month is a suitable amount for each person, and consuming more than five grams per meal causes complications including dizziness, reduction of heart rate, and nausea, and increases the risk of abortion during pregnancy. That is why use of saffron is strictly prohibited during pregnancy.
